Over 10 million people in central Africa speak KiKongo ya Bandundu (Ktu) or Lingala (Lin).

Handwritten documents (correspondence, for example) are generally not a problem. In the spring of 2004, he taught Kikongo through the African Languages Program at Harvard University.
